GET OFF GAS WITH WASABI GROUP

One team, one quote, and you're off gas for good

Swap your gas heading, hot water and cooktop for heat pumps and induction. We do all three, so you deal with one company from quote to install.

Wellington, Tawa, Hutt Valley, Porirua, Kāpiti and Wairarapa

Why people are getting off gas

Gas keeps getting more expensive. Household gas prices rose about 11% in the year to June 2026, and pipeline charges went up again in October. Heat pumps move heat rather than make it, so you get more warmth out out every unit of power.

And once your last gas appliance is gone, you can close your gas account. No more daily line charge.

"This was the 4th heat pump we've had installed by the Wasabi team over several years and we're yet to have any reason to consider another company. This was the 4th heat pump we've had installed by the Wasabi team over several years and we're yet to have any reason to consider another company."

"Because we were so impressed with their workmanship on install 1, we had no hesitation in using them for the 2nd. Timely, quick, and no mess."

- Wyn

"The Wasabi technicians arrived on site when they said they would... They cleaned up and vacuumed all of the work area before leaving each evening."

FAQs

Do I have to replace all three at once?

Not at all. Many customers start with their heating or hot water, then replace the rest when the time is right, often when an old appliance is near the end of its life. Keep in mind that while any gas appliance stays connected, you’ll still pay the daily gas connection charge, so the biggest savings come once you’re fully off gas. We’re happy to talk through a plan that suits your budget and timing.

Will my switchboard cope?

We check this on the home visit. Some older homes need a switchboard upgrade, and if yours does, it'll be in your quote so there are no surprises.

Will I need new pots for induction?

Possibly. Induction works with pots a magnet sticks to. Most stainless steel and cast iron pans are fine.

What happens to my gas connection?

Once your last gas appliance is out, you contact your gas retailer to close the account and arrange disconnection. We'll tell you exactly what to ask for.

Can I use a green loan to cover a heat pump, hot water heat pump and induction cooktop together?

In most cases, yes. Most major New Zealand banks offer green home loan top-ups at a low interest rate for energy-saving upgrades. Heat pumps and hot water heat pumps are covered by all the main banks. Induction cooktops are covered by some banks but not all, so check with yours before you apply.
